Surety bonds, placed by people who actually answer the phone.
A bond-only agency writing contractor license, performance, court, ERISA, employee-dishonesty and specialty sureties nationwide — hard-to-place risks vs. bonds standard carriers decline.

A bond-only surety agency — that's the whole product
Atlantic Coast Surety writes nothing but surety bonds. We don't sell commercial-package insurance on the side, we don't dabble in auto or property, and we don't route new files to an intake portal. Every submission that comes into ACS is a surety file, and every hour we spend at work is spent on one. That focus is what a bond client actually buys — access to underwriters who know our submissions, honest timelines on tough files, and a permanent bond line that makes every future request faster.
The agency has run out of Mahwah, New Jersey for twenty-plus years. We're licensed to file bonds in 40+ US states, we sit on both standard and specialty carrier panels, and we run the small book of specialty markets that catches contract, license and probate files the general market has declined. If your file is clean, we quote it same day. If it's tough, we tell you the realistic path.
- Personal underwriter relationships at every carrier we use
- Bond lines that make every renewal and every additional bond faster
- Specialty markets for bad-credit performance, contested probate and other tough placements
Every bond we place, in nine categories
Rather than list every one of the hundreds of individual bonds we've written, we group them into nine categories. Pick the category that fits your file — inside each one, we can quote every sub-program the same day for clean submissions. Surety and fidelity bonds only — we do not sell insurance policies.

Anthony Spina answers the phone — the same person who'll work your file
Most surety shops route you to a help-desk queue. We don't. Every new file is reviewed by Anthony Spina, who's been writing bonds at ACS for two decades and has direct lines to the underwriters at every carrier we use.
- Same-day quotes on most license, permit and small court bonds
- Honest timelines on performance bonds — we tell you what's realistic up front
- A real person on every renewal, every cancellation, every claim conversation
From obligee letter to bond in three steps
Most files quote within a business day. Court and small license bonds often issue the same day. Complex performance bonds for new applicants take longer — and we tell you up front.
Tell us about the bond
Send the obligee letter, indemnity request or court order — or just describe what you need. Anthony Spina personally reviews every new file.
We submit to the right underwriter
We match the file to the carrier most likely to approve it cleanly — standard for prime credit, specialty for tougher placements.
Bond issued, line established
Once you're approved, we issue the bond, set up a bond line for repeat work, and handle renewals so your operations never wait on paperwork.
The carrier panel behind every bond
The bond is only as good as the surety writing it — obligees check for A-rated, T-Listed carriers, and so should you.
Every bond we place is written by an A-rated (AM Best) surety carrier that appears on the US Treasury Department's Circular 570 register — the federal government's approved-surety list. That single fact opens the door to federal obligations under FAR, DOD and GSA schedules; to state obligees on contractor licensing boards; to municipal obligees on subdivision, waste-hauler and license bonds; and to court obligees on probate and judicial matters. Alongside those standard markets we sit on a specialty desk that catches distressed files — bad-credit performance, contested probate, hard-to-place license — with programs that price the file honestly rather than issuing a precautionary decline.
Frequently asked questions
Good to KnowHonest answers about how surety bonds work, what it costs and how long it takes.
A surety bond is a three-party agreement: a principal (you) who needs the bond, an obligee (a government, court or contracting party) who requires it, and a surety company that guarantees you'll meet the bond's obligation. If you fail to perform, the surety pays out — and you reimburse the surety. It is not insurance; it's a credit-backed guarantee.
The premium depends on the bond type, the bond amount and your credit. For standard contract bonds it's typically a small percentage of the bond amount. License and permit bonds are often a flat fee. Court and probate bonds are priced from the estate or matter size. Send us the specifics and we'll quote it within a business day.
Some bonds issue in minutes (small license, permit or court bonds with clean credit). Larger performance bonds or first-time contract submissions can take several business days while the underwriter reviews financials. Once your file is on record, follow-up bonds on the same line are usually same-day.
Surety is closer to mortgage underwriting than insurance — the carrier is taking unsecured credit risk. Financials, work-on-hand schedules and personal indemnity let the underwriter make a real decision instead of a precautionary decline. The good news: once it's in file, future bonds move much faster.
Yes. We hold standard markets for clean credit AND specialty markets for bad-credit performance bonds, distressed contractors, contested probate matters and other tough placements. Tell us what you've been declined for — we'll tell you the realistic path.
A bond line is a pre-approved capacity — a single-bond limit and an aggregate — that a carrier gives a contractor after its first successful underwrite. Once your line is established, we can issue new performance bonds inside the line the same day, without a fresh underwrite each time. Every serious contract shop should have one.
Yes. Every carrier we use is on the Treasury Department's Circular 570 register, which is the federal government's approved-surety list. That covers FAR-required project bonds, DOD subcontract bonds and GSA schedules. Federal files typically require more underwriting time up front.
The carrier investigates the claim, contacts you for a response, and — if the claim is valid — pays the obligee up to the bond limit. You then reimburse the carrier under the indemnity agreement you signed at inception. Call us as soon as a claim letter arrives; a co-ordinated response usually resolves the matter before payment.
